Bonneville Salt Flats

My friend Chiara and I went to the Bonneville Salt Flats this weekend and it was a refreshing mini road trip. I'm working on my photography portfolio—due November 30th—and I'd been wanting to check out the Salt Flats since I'd moved to Utah. You know it's real friendship when you timidly suggest leaving at 7 ("if that's not too early!") and they call you a terrible liar and say "I'll see you in the lobby at 6!" It was pitch black and we saw the sun rise on the way there—one of the most beautiful things I've seen since moving here to Utah. I was a little sad to return to civilization. It's deserted out there.

We made a little video just for fun. You can watch it here!

Also, Pirates of The Caribbean filmed a big scene at these very salt flats. It's really interesting and you can see a behind the scenes video here. Can we all just take a moment and imagine Johnny Depp in Tooele, Utah? I can't even imagine. So funny.

The blurry ones always end up being some of my favorites.

Proof I was actually there. Self-timer style. Typical.

Early Morning At The Salt Flats

Such a good day. Super imperfect and yet still beautiful. Just the way I like it.

Woke up at 5 and saw the sun rise. I think I'll make that a regular part of my routine—it was so peaceful.

I'll admit it; Utah sunrises are unreal.

Lately

In no particular order, food, friends, funny things (just baking? story of our lives), tender mercies (happy notes on my door after a hard day), cousin's dinner on Italian night at the cannon, home away from home, BABY CAT, bowling (it counts as being social, right), pretty photos in the HFAC, great football seats. From my cell phone.

Lumineers, I Love You!

"It's like we're being reverse serenaded!" — Emily, in response to the last-minute balcony stage

The Saltair is the worst. I won't go into it, but because of their poor management skills (proven repeatedly to us throughout the night), The Lumineers only got to preform about 5 songs before they were interrupted and the show was abruptly ended because of 'inclement weather'. Do not let that be a reflection on the Lumineers. They were incredible.  It ended too soon. Come back to Utah!!

BYU vs. University of Utah (Also Known As The 'Holy War')

I went to my first football game tonight and really enjoyed it!

What happens when you only bring your telephoto lens.

I wouldn't mind that job. At all.

Jamaal Williams suffered a neck injury, the extent of which is not public yet. He was injured at the bottom of this pile and moved off the field in the photos below. All I could think about was when we were little and my mom (a doctor) would explain all the precautions that are taken when someone with a potentially injured spinal cord needs to be moved. That's what was happening.

Teammates showing support.

Tensions were high after Jamaal was carried off the field, especially when it was already a rough game.

It's okay BYU. We still love you!
