People Don't SING at College

I've been looking at the calendar and I cannot believe I am moving two thousand miles away in five weeks. P.S. I graduated on the summer solstice and that's a good thing — otherwise, we would've missed that gorgeous sunset in the back of this polaroid. I'm obsessed with the background of this photo. Timing is everything!  (The title of this post is an old SNL reference in case it's ringing any bells...)

[soon-to-be] Graduate!

I'm graduating from high school on Friday and I can't believe it! I'm so happy and I have a feeling that my two months of summer before BYU are going to feel especially short. When I'm not working I plan to be swimming, sketching & watercoloring, as well as re-reading the entire HP series just for fun. I'm also planning on many a movie night and hopefully a few beach days of course!

Also as kind of a pointless side note, as I write this, I'm home on my lunch break from work watching HP7 part 1 and I love this song from the score.

Instax Wall

Since it's been so dreary outside, I played around with my self-timer and favorite wall. It's kind of my fave. Instant film for life.

why do i love... polaroids

instax film is certainly not perfect, usually far from it, but i love it for a few reasons.

there's just a certain look to instant film once it's developed. everything looks dreamier, softer, and it's so fun to have a tangible reminder and memory, instantly.

walk into my room and point to any photo on that wall, and i can tell you the story behind it.

90% of the time, i wouldn't remeber that little story had i not taken a polaroid of it.

california in the summer

LA temple, disneyland, and balboa island

my favorite is the "it's a small world" one.

a funny stories to my sisters: the second to last and last photos are accidentally almost completely exposed, but if you look really closely you can see the junior lifeguards of california army on the bottom left. out of control hahahaha.

so many instax all in one place

the weather at home is finally chilly! i feel like this week has a lot of thick socks, cozy sweaters, soup, and reading in it. welcome back, fall! i've missed you.

{i'll be really excited about you once i find the perfect boots. someday, i will find them...}

hanging in there

my level of stress has been less than ideal lately. and that means that priorities tend to get out of whack. but what i've learned about myself is that even when i'm stretched thinly, i'm happier when i make time not just for the things that i have to do, but also for the things i love to do that may not be exactly be qualified as a necessity.

so, the leisure reading, guitar, and yes, the blog (really though) have once again emerged from the piles of obligations and ap tests. it's good to be back.

snapped this one outside today. it was a beautiful {chilly} day.

cupcakes are my favorite

what a fantastic cupcake bar!

a random assortment of things.

I have rediscovered my love for the peanut butter & jelly sandwich.

I really need to make a to do list.

I just got out butter to soften so I could make cookies from scratch, at 9 pm. Because there is never a time that isn't perfect for cookies and milk. My soul could use some of that right now (Psh, forget about chicken soup, a good homemade chocolate chip cookie works much better, I promise.)

Emily gets home on Friday!! I am itching to skip school one day and have some sort of adventure next week.... we'll see.

And, to wrap up this lovely jumble of things, you can never have enough of these:

the grass is always greener...

the grass may always be greener on the other side, but i like the white cow's method of getting around this predicament: if they can't be on the other side of the fence, they are at least going to eat that grass through it. you've got to choose your battles.

one of my favorite things ever: the wonder years episode titled "the accident", when winnie and kevin have a heartwarming moment to the song "we've got tonight" by bob seger at the very end.

do yourself a favor and take 20 minutes. you'll feel a lot less stressed after watching main man kevin arnold be a good friend.  (i've even made it easy for you)

here comes the sun

these photos make me so, so happy. i like them a lot.

we can complain because rose bushes have thorns, or rejoice because thorn bushes have roses - abraham lincoln

i like the ombre colors in this photo, the sky and the grass.

you can't stop the beat

this week is for catching up on everything that hairspray kind of pushed out of the way, like posting my photos a day {i have been taking them, i promise}, and making it clear that a tornado has not indeed landed in my room {so messy, i'm going crazy}.

on another note, my hair has indeed survived all the teasing this week, thanks to my trusty conditioner. thank goodness. now i know why girls don't tease their hair so much anymore. although i think it's still such a eye candy kind of style.

also, i say we bring back the dresses every day. dumb feminists.

and speaking of eye candy, yes, i did make the photos as obnoxiously large as i could, just so you could see every last detail.

the hand in the right bottom corner was someone was trying to limbo under the camera....they made it pretty close, i must say.

it's a little bittersweet that hairspray is over, but on the bright side, i'll have like four more hours a day at my disposal. R&R starting..... now.

little kitty

this is what i came home to after new york city. she is balancing on my record collection. cool.

i can!

here's how the day went down, february 11th, 2012.

7:16 am: we depart for our big adventure. it's snowing, enough to make everything look beautiful.
9:16: we arrive in the city. there was NO traffic. i've never seen anything like it. still snowing.
9:24: we admire the cutest puppies in the pet store window, along with other real new yorkers. i'm telling you, a yorkie puppie can break anyone.
9:30: mom and i go to sprinkles for cupcakes; vanilla & chocolate frosting for her, snickerdoodle for me.
9:30-11:30: we wander around the upper west for a little while and eat macarons, then head to the theatre district, buy some sheet music, and look at "lee's art shop."
11:30 - 12:30: we eat at a bbq place. it's pretty delicious. {can you tell that i like food yet?}
12:30: we meander our way to the al hirschfeld theatre.

12:55: we're a block away and i hear screaming....
12:56: i start running because there were no more cars
12:57: nick jonas is four feet away from me. on the other side of the barricade. {les mis reference, anyone... the barricade... hahaha}
12:58: he waves at me because i couldn't get a picture and security makes him go in the stage door
12:59: i strategize my plan for after the show...

2:00-4:30: i'm in awe

4:31: i'm in the front row 'at the lonely barricade' {haha i laugh at my own jokes}
4:32: i make friends with the girls behind me and they're ready to take my picture with my favorite little j. pierpont 'f-i-n-c-h' finch!
4:35: the only person who comes out is mr. trumble. because he's a company man. he signs my playbill.
4:40: "I'm sorry, Nick doesn't come out between shows. Bye!"
4:41: </3
4:42: the domino's pizza delivery guy goes in the stage door. injustice!

4:43: i already have a plan for next time. :)

i feel sorry for men who don't knit. they lead empty lives.

i'll write about my day later, but for now, here's some eye candy from our trip to new york.
