To start off our series of posts full of the charm of the Upper West Side (I took a lot of pictures, I mean it was a beautiful day in a beautiful city), I give you the Riverside Park Monument.
Going off on a tangent for a second, I love that I'm more aware of the geography of New York City after staying in an apartment for a week on vacation in 2011. Staying in the city for an extended period of time (as opposed to a day trip) gave me a better knowledge of how to navigate and what is where, etc. Also, I feel like I could figure out the subway on my own if I had to. Essentially, staying in the city for a long time was a completely different experience than visiting for just a day or so. I feel like it changes everything. It just kind of "clicked" more every day we were there.
But now---back to our birthday day trip! Up first, the Riverside Park "Soldiers' and Sailors'" Civil War Monument. Walk down 89th street towards the Hudson---you can't miss it. (Kathleen Kelly had the perfect view of it from her apartment, but that's a story for later this week...)
Love these photos! And we know what you mean by how staying in a different city once can help you understand the geography and give you a sense of direction. Looks like it was a fun little visit. :) Xo, M&K at BT
