We Are NEVER Ever Getting Back Together
This show was unreal. But for starters, let's talk about another reason why it was a little unforgettable. There were three opening acts; two I didn't know & Ed Sheeran. They were all good — Ed Sheeran was an interesting performer. He was difficult to understand in some of the songs (due to a combination of speaking quickly and with a heavy accent), but the fascinating thing was that he took the stage by himself. No backing track, just him and a guitar. He showed us how (by using a pedal with his foot) he could play a rhythmic pattern on his guitar, have it repeat infinitely and slowly layer on everything else to make his own, live accompaniment. Cool.
Finally, at 8:45, my homegirl was supposed to take the stage. Suddenly, over the loudspeakers, we hear a "ladies & gentlemen!!" and the entire stadium of 60,000 people erupted in cheers expecting Taylor to be introduced. But instead it was a weather warning directing everyone to get out of their seats and get undercover. Just in time, too, because five minutes later, there was heavy heavy rain and severe lighting. With 60 mph winds. Cool.
Longest two hours (I exaggerate not. TWO HOURS) of our lives. My friend Bridget and I were just sitting on the concrete floor doing our best to not get struck by lightening. We didn't have cell phone service either, so we couldn't see Taylor's tweets that they would go on as soon as it stopped. Naturally, we were predicting worst case scenarios. But finally, it stopped!
Taylor Swift has a huge amount of stage presence. Really. And live, you could recognize it more than any video I've seen. She's so graceful too! The show was a wonderful mix of intimate numbers (with only a girl & a guitar) and elaborate productions (costume changes, a company of dancers, etc.)
I love her and I highly recommend this show. So, so good! You can tell that she really gave her attention to every last detail of this production, and it shows. She was a phenomonal performer and it was over way too soon.
these photos are so, so great. i am so, so jealous.
